Historic Preservation Process Improvement
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Neighborhoods hired Broadview Planning as part of a consultant team to undertake a thorough review of the Historic Preservation Program. The impetus of the project was to better understand the constraints and barriers and help City staff identify innovative tools and incentives to encourage the preservation and adaptive reuse of City landmarks and historic districts. BvP conducted extensive stakeholder interviews to comprehensively understand potential challenges and opportunities from the local community. We further reviewed existing policies and processes to develop recommendations for improvements that were centered around livability over sustainability, such as an on-site garden and amenities. Our involvement streamlined and emphasized resource protection, highlighting the role of historic preservation as part of a vibrant, healthy city.
